Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. It really was a cup match. Two great teams fought, and it was a great game. I think the players were a little nervous in the first half, but it was a close game. They got off to a good start in the second half, and both teams started to show signs of fatigue, but we'll analyze that carefully. I'm really happy that we were able to advance to the final."
Q: I'd like to ask about Sakamoto's performance. He scored the winning goal today, and has scored seven goals in the league so far, second only to Usami. Please tell us about Sakamoto's performance this season.
Head Coach Poyatos: "Yes, and I can honestly say this from the bottom of my heart, I'm not surprised by his success so far. After he returned from his loan transfer to Okayama, I watched him closely with the staff and worked hard to improve my own play and rhythm. I think that's where his talent really came out. He's a player who really carries the future of Gamba, so I want to help him grow together with the club. He's a really great player."
Q: "What did Head Coach Poyatos say to the players before going into extra time, and what was his plan?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. First of all, in terms of the plan, or rather our problem, DAWHAN had a cramp and the players were tired, so I was thinking about how to make substitutions and what I told the players was to "stay compact" and "close the middle tightly and compactly." At the same time, we were both tired, so I told them about the attacking parts, the attacking shapes in the center and on the sides, and I think the other team saw that and put Eduardo in the midfield. We have a plan for the match, but we are often tired and there are various aspects, so sometimes it doesn't go well and sometimes it goes well."
Q: "Since you took over as Head Coach, you have said that you want to put Gamba in the position they should be in, and we are just one win away from winning that coveted title. How do you feel about taking on the final in November?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "That's right. It's hard to explain how I feel right now, but last year, while I did a great job with the staff, we didn't get the results, and my family suffered as well. We all suffered because we didn't get the results even though we played well. That's why I'm happy and want to enjoy this moment to the fullest. Even now, when I look back on last year, I realize how tough it was."
