Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos said, "I think it was a truly complete game. We were able to control the game well and hurt the opponent in the transitions. I also think the players showed an incredibly good attitude. We set a goal of six wins in six matches, and I think this kind of thing will be important for Japan and for Gamba. So I hope that Gamba will use this as a base to grow from here on out."
Q: "Thank you for your hard work over the past three years. What did you say to the players in the locker room at the end, and what are your expectations for the club GAMBA OSAKA?"
"I told him that we have built a solid foundation over the past three years, so I don't want to be satisfied with where we are now, but to keep moving forward," Poyatos Head Coach. "I also told him that I have given my all to bring Gamba back to a place where it should be. It wasn't an easy first season, but I hope that the next Head Coach will continue to have strong ambitions and that the club will provide him with solid support."
Q: "I think today we were able to embody the Head Coach of football that you've always talked about, such as playing wide, creating space and using that space. Was showing that kind of attitude the best way for players to repay the Head Coach? Also, how do you feel about making new history for the club with six wins in six games?"
Head Coach Poyatos said, "We've achieved a historic six wins in six games, and I think we've created a symbol of that. The club demanded it, and I believe we were able to achieve that. I'm very proud of how we played today, and three years ago, former president Ono asked me to help him create an aggressive style of football that would delight the fans and captivate them, so I'm very happy that we were able to embody that. So, I think we did a very good job, including pleasing the fans with our play, and although we didn't win the title, I personally wanted to move forward from here, but the club has decided to go down a new path, so I've accepted that and I believe all the players will do their best to achieve that."
Q: What were your thoughts on choosing Daichi HAYASHI as your final substitution?
Head Coach Poyatos said, "Daichi is a player who has suffered a lot over the past two years. When I spoke with him, I saw him cry tears of frustration, and yet I saw him getting better day by day. This time, I chose him to play with the hope that he will continue to play better and better, taking good care of his knee. I am very happy, and I think he is a wonderful person and a truly loving player."
