Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I'm very disappointed. I think that we at GAMBA OSAKA played really well against such a great opponent as Tosu. I wish we could have scored in the last third of the game. But Tosu also reacted well, and I think it was a great game. I have a really good feeling about this team, and I think today was a game that was worth winning. I'm very disappointed."
Q: "I think the first half was a good game, especially if we had scored a goal, but the other Head Coach did make a comeback in the second half. What were the differences you felt between the first and second halves?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "In the first half, we pressed a little, and the players were under a lot of physical strain. For example, Neta (Ravi) and DAWHAN were running around quite a bit, so we changed the way we applied pressure in the second half. Sagan Tosu is a team that has been firmly established in the second year of the Head Coach's tenure, and they intended to widen our space, and we didn't want to let them do that, so we closed off the middle firmly and let the opponents have the ball, and we went into the second half with the intention of letting the first row have the ball and carry it."
Q: You used Ravi as a starter for the first time and he played very well, but what did you like about him that made you decide to use him as a starter and what is your evaluation of his performance today?
Head Coach Poyatos: "I don't particularly like to evaluate one player, but I think all the players played a really great game. However, the reason I chose Neta Ravi as a starter is because Tosu plays man-marking and puts a lot of pressure on the defensive side, so I wanted to use his strength and his talents to avoid the opponent's press and not lose to that momentum, so I chose him as a starter today. He has the ability to respond to a variety of situations, so I think he was able to show that today."
Q: "Head Coach mentioned Ravi, but today we used him as an anchor. What was the reason for that? And I think DAWHAN's thoughtful play was very effective. What is your assessment of him?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Firstly, I knew that the opponent's inside halves would come out to the sides, so I wanted to field energetic players who could put pressure on them, and that's why I chose DAWHAN and Ravi. We needed players with that kind of energy. It wasn't DAWHAN's usual position, but he handled it well, and I think DAWHAN's efforts led to a good game for him."
Q: "The attacks that Head Coach aimed for Head Coach well in the first half, but what part of today's game did Head Coach feel most satisfied with?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I personally feel very positive. I believe the team is on a good path. There are still some areas that need adjustment and we need to be more precise, but I think we are on a very good path. If we win, we will definitely be able to solidify that path, but the players fought well and with ideas, including those things, and I personally think that it was a game in which we entertained the fans with our football. I feel very positive."
Q: "Musashi SUZUKI had a goal cancelled due to being offside, but what were your expectations of him and how do you evaluate his performance today?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Since the preseason, I think he has been playing extremely well, including his understanding of the game. His strengths are his excellent understanding of space, and I think that when opponents come at us from the front, he is good at exploiting the space behind us. He also did a good job of finishing. There are some areas that need to be adjusted and corrected, but he played a good game, and I think that players with this kind of fighting spirit are necessary for Gamba and Osaka."
