Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I'm really very happy, and I think we played a perfect game throughout the entire match. I think the things I usually do came out in the game, and we were able to control the game and keep possession of the ball throughout. Of course, there were times when the other team created chances. FC Tokyo has a great Head Coach , so I thought there would be times when they would create chances, but I think it was good that we managed to keep a clean sheet. The only thing I would regret is that we could have ended the game sooner."
Q: "You said you could have ended the game sooner in the first half, but we continued to get close to the opponent's penalty box but couldn't get a shot off, which was frustrating. What kind of instructions did you give in terms of attacking for the second half?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "There may have been some parts where we weren't able to hit the ball, but if we had changed our way of thinking, I think we could have tired out the opponents. By having the ball and moving it around, the opponents have to run. This means that we can tire them out, and I think that most of our opponents are teams that are physically stronger than Gamba, so when we play against teams that are superior to us, we try to tire out the opponents by moving the ball around, which is something we always keep in mind in training, and to do that, we moved the ball around like we did today, created space, and found that space to play in, which is something we usually do in training, so I think that came out well."
Q: "In your long career as a Head Coach, it's rare for a FW to score a goal just one minute after you put him in. What do you think about that?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Well, to be honest, I don't think that's really that important. I think the important thing is how the goal was scored at the time, and my aim was to have WELTON face Nagatomo, but Nagatomo was defending well and we couldn't break through him. I was thinking of bringing in a slightly different type of player, so I made a substitution and moved WELTON to the right wing. And then the goal was scored, so I did what I could, and the rest of the players expressed themselves on the pitch, and (Yamada) Kota scored the goal, so I think we're talking about this now."
