[Preview] It's time to turn the tenacity shown in the Shimizu match into three points. Gamba will go for a solid, bold win against Fukuoka.
The match against Shimizu, an away game played immediately after returning from the ACL Elite, saw them trailing by two goals, but the attacking formation changes made by the manager in the second half, along with the players' determination, led to a dramatic equalizer by JEBALI.
Normally, Gamba wouldn't be satisfied with a draw, even on enemy territory, but "mentally, the fact that we didn't lose is a positive thing as we head into the next match," said MESHINO, who scored a crucial goal to close the deficit, reflecting on the significance of the Shimizu match that put an end to their losing streak.
Usami, deployed in midfield, skillfully orchestrated the game, and Kogashiwa, making his Gamba debut, also showed great promise despite the short time on the field, receiving the ball between the lines and making runs behind the defense, as praised by Head Coach Myojin. The team showed positive aspects even amidst a series of away matches.
However, Abe is well aware of what is required of Gamba. "Instead of trying to equalize at the end, we need to aim for goals from the first half and play a more Gamba-like game" (Abe).
The match against Fukuoka, the final game of four consecutive away matches, is "a must-win game considering Gamba’s current situation" (Abe).
The key will undoubtedly be whether or not they score the first goal. Gamba has yet to take the lead in a league match this season, but Abe says that "being bold at the start of the game and playing without hesitation will lead to fewer goals conceded" (Abe).
While conceding a goal carelessly is unacceptable, being too conscious of risk management and losing attacking power would be counterproductive.
Fukuoka's approach remains unclear, but what Gamba should show is a head-on battle against a gritty opponent. Ideally, they would win the ball high up the pitch and press on, but the prerequisite is winning local battles. "It will be important how many second balls we MF can pick up and win challenges to regain possession," Abe said, showing his enthusiasm for duels on both offense and defense.
Fukuoka, on the other hand, is currently 17th in the league standings. They lost 0-3 to Machida in their most recent match, but a loss to Gamba would put them in the relegation zone, so they are sure to come at them with a strong determination. Unlike Gamba, they only have 2nd year of junior high school matches, so "it's hard to say what kind of lineup they'll field, but they will work hard as a team and fight as a whole. That's something to be wary of," said Head Coach Myojin, expressing concern about the organizational strength of Fukuoka, whose main players are mostly Japanese.
If Silva Pinto Werik(WERIK POPO), who was substituted midway through the last match, takes to the pitch, his strength should not be underestimated, but attention should also be paid to the individual skill of Morooka, who is the team's top scorer with 3 goals.
However, Fukuoka has only managed one clean sheet in the league season. There are definitely weaknesses to exploit, so they will want to show the same precision in front of goal as they did against Shimizu. "I myself wanted a goal, so I can visualize a good goal for the next match," said MESHINO, eager to score his third goal of the season.
"Fukuoka is a team that clearly moves the ball forward, a team with a strong forward-moving arrow" (MESHINO), but Gamba will stop that arrow and always force their way into the goal.
All that remains is for the commander and players to unite and seize the victory that awaits them after a tough fight.
