Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Miyamoto: "With five games remaining, I spoke to the players about winning the three home games. In the first half, we had a plan to close out the space for the opponents' attacks and get closer to the opponents' goal, so we controlled the game and, although we didn't have many shots, we went along with the game plan to a certain extent."
Even when the score was 0-1, I had told the players that it would be okay even at 0-1, and I thought that by bringing in players like Wi-jo and ADEMILSON Braga Bispo Junior in the second half, we could activate our attack and lead to goals, so everyone started off well defensively, especially in the second half, and we stole the ball from the opponents and pressed to induce mistakes. We also saw many short counterattacks and I thought it was a great second half where you could feel the heart in the players' play.
It was a game where it was hard to tell whether the second goal would be scored or not, but in a test of patience, the players managed the risks well and approached the opponent's goal, ran well, and fought well, and I think it was a really big victory in that they won a very tough game.
Q: "Higashiguchi was substituted in the first half. What is his current condition?"
Head Coach said, "He has a little pain in the ligament on the inside of his right knee, but it doesn't seem to be anything serious, so fortunately he has a week off and will continue to get treatment and make adjustments for the next game."
Q: You mentioned that you started with a three-back formation, and that you started ADEMILSON Braga Bispo Junior and Ui-jo on the bench, and that it went according to plan to some extent, but was it your game plan from the beginning to play defensively in the first half and then go for the win in the second half?
Head Coach: "That's right. Defensively, we saw that the opponents had good starts in the first half and would try to exploit the spaces we had in the Levain Cup, so we managed that and in the second half, we wanted to use Ui-jo and ADEMILSON Braga Bispo Junior, who have a good combination that we've seen in training, to get closer to the opponent's goal."
However, with Higashiguchi's injury, we had one fewer substitution slot, so we started with three players to see how we could deal with it and how we could connect it to attacks, but it seemed a little heavy, so we changed to four. In regards to that, we had an image of the second half of the Kobe match in mind, so I think the players were able to keep that in mind.
Q: "Onoe scored his first goal. What is your assessment of him?"
Head Coach Miyamoto was talking amongst us about when we were going to score (laughs). We had scored a lot of good goals in practice, so I thought it was just a matter of time, but I think scoring the winning goal in a situation like today will have a big impact.
However, he was a player who scored more goals in Yamaguchi, so I would like him to be involved in scoring more, and I will definitely request that.
Q: "Head Coach always say that we win together, and today, even though you were substituted, Onoe was involved in scoring, so today's come-from-behind victory will be a great boost. What is your assessment of that?"
As for Head Coach Miyamoto and Suganuma, we started with them as one of the three defenders, and we all think that what is required of us in this match and how we can snatch victory are important points, especially now as we are fighting to stay in the league.
So I want to have each player bring out their strengths, and make use of ADEMILSON Braga Bispo Junior's power towards the goal and Ui-jo's nose. None of them will be starting from the beginning, and all the players want to start from the beginning, so I think there are some mental difficulties in that regard, but everyone, including the players who didn't play today, is committed to Gamba winning, so there is a good atmosphere right now, and practice is going well too, and everyone is in agreement that winning more of the remaining four games will lead to better results, so I want to keep doing this.
