Head Coach comments after the match
Katanozaka, Head Coach: "It's a very disappointing result, and I'm really sorry that we had to send off a lot of Gamba fans and supporters, who came out on Wednesday night despite it being a night game and fought with us until the end, and that we had to send them off with disappointment again. This was our fourth match against Kashima, and we've been disappointed in not winning in the past, so today was the day, and the players really prepared well and started well in the consecutive matches, and although Kashima is of course a strong team, I think they put up a good challenge. We were able to create more chances than in previous matches, and the players fought until the end without giving up on what we were trying to do. I think we just need to continue doing what we did well in the future and try to turn these games into wins. With consecutive matches and only two days between matches, it's going to be a tough situation, but we'll look forward and switch gears and prepare well so that we can definitely win the next derby at home."
Q: "I think everyone is in a tough condition, so why didn't you make many changes to the starting line-up?"
Head Coach Katanozaka: "Simply put, these are the members who can compete against Kashima."
Q: "Even if they are tired, in what ways do you think a player who is currently in the starting line-up is more suitable than a player who is often off the bench?"
Head Coach Katanozaka: "First of all, I think we have to use players who can be trusted, who can fight with a sense of unity, who can carry out their tasks well, who can do things for the team, and of course we knew we were going to have consecutive games, so even if it was just for two or three days, we had to recover and show our power, we had to run, and I think the only thing we could do was prepare to run, and that's why I selected today's members as players I can trust. Of course, there are fresh substitute players on the team, and there are also players who remain in Osaka. It's not that those players are bad, but rather, I want them to understand that it's because they are lacking in some areas that it's difficult to make them starters, and I want them to focus on those areas and take on the challenge."
Q: "You were in a pinch in the first half, but you held on at 0-0 and conceded a goal in the second half. As has happened in recent games, there was a short period of time before you conceded a second goal. What do you think happened in today's game?"
Head Coach, "Of course, conceding goals in succession is painful, and we want to avoid conceding goals as much as possible, but it is very difficult to keep the score at zero against Kashima with such quality players on the bench, and we had the chance to score the opening goal, so if we had scored that goal, it would have been good. But anyway, it's down to each individual player to be persistent, stay focused, and fight tough until the end to avoid conceding goals. After that, I think we just have to do it for the sake of the team, including the players who have been substituted."
