Head Coach comments after the match
Head Coach Poyatos: "I personally think it was a perfect match. From the front line players to the defensive line players, they fought well, including the pressure from the front line and all aspects of defense. I think that we were able to control the game well against a team with such quality and talent as Frontale, and we worked hard together to close out the match. It was a great match."
Q: Head Coach Poyatos said, "It was a great game, a complete game." Of course, there were many elements to it, but what did Head Coach like most about today's game?
Head Coach Poyatos: "If I had to pick just one thing, it would be the aggressiveness of our defense. Of course, there are many things, but if I had to pick one, I think that was really good. Diego (Kwon Kyung-won), (Miura) Genta, DAWHAN, and the other players too, their aggressiveness in defense and their attitude of not losing in duels are very important against a great team like Kawasaki Frontale. If I could add one more thing, I think that in terms of the way we moved the ball, we were able to close in and find the interior on the opposite side, which was also good in today's game."
Q: Speaking of the ball movement Head Coach just mentioned, I think Alano's shot on the second goal was fantastic, but was the ball movement leading up to that point also something that Head Coach Poyatos had been looking for?
Head Coach Poyatos: "I personally believe that this is the best way for our players to express themselves. I have players like (Usami) Takashi, (Alano) and (Ishige) Hide move the ball, while these players wait on the opposite side with intention, and we are working on this every day so that the whole team can move the ball with intention."
Q: "I think that the fact that Gamba was able to win against Kawasaki F, a strong opponent that Gamba has not been able to beat in recent years, in a style that is characteristic of Gamba and that is the style that the Head Coach aims for, means more than just three points. What do you think?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think it's all thanks to the team's belief. However, I believe that if this GAMBA OSAKA team starts every game with this kind of focus and stays focused throughout the game, this kind of result will come naturally to any team. I'm very happy that all the fans came out to play for Gamba, and that we were able to bring joy to people by winning against a team like Frontale, and I think that's my goal. It's also my own joy to be able to bring this joy not only to the fans, but to everyone involved in everything at Gamba, the people who work there, and everyone involved with Gamba."
Q: "Although JEBALI didn't score any goals, he was active in various positions up front, and as Head Coach Poyatos said yesterday, he was effective with his clever movements. What do you think about his functionality in today's game?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "Issam JEBALI really helps the team in terms of build-up, how we pull out the ball, and he really played a great role as the number 9 today. His best quality is that he has a good grasp of space. He is a player who is good at immediately recognizing where there is space. At the same time, when he dropped back to receive the ball, he played a good role in confusing the opponent's CB by making them decide whether to follow him or not. He is a very important player for us, and I am very pleased with his attitude of really trying to fit into this team on a daily basis."
Q: "Please tell us why you chose Tani, who made a big mistake in the match against Shonan, and how he performed today. And what words did you say to him after the match?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I believe that we humans make a lot of mistakes in life. Helping and supporting others is something I always do myself. As for (Tani) Akio, I think he was mentally tough this week, but I don't mind his mistakes at all. I accept them, embrace them, and try to help and support him every day, and improve together with him."
Q: This is your seventh victory in the league. What kind of impact does this victory have on the team after a run of not winning for a while?
Head Coach Poyatos: "In a word, I think each and every player will gain confidence. I think this is important, including the mental aspect, and if we don't fight aggressively like this, we will lose, but if we become a team with a strong sense of aggressiveness, I think they have proven that we can definitely win. The next match against Kyoto will be a different type of match, and I think they will press from the front and play a man-to-man style. In that sense, I think this victory will help each and every player gain confidence, trust in their own efforts, and self-confidence. I really see this victory as a positive one."
Q: "DAWHAN scored the opening goal, but in the early stages, things weren't going smoothly from the back line, and I think the fact that he carried the ball around with him played a big role. What do you think?"
Head Coach Poyatos: "I think the first half of a game like this is difficult for everyone. The opposing players played according to the plan of the opposing Head Coach and were fresh, so I think DAWHAN's strengths came out when the opponents started to get a little tired. At the same time, he also provides good balance in the midfield, and I think his presence in the midfield recently, his strength and intensity, has really stood out for this team. He may not be the right player for the interior, but his presence in the midfield, adjusting well to that position and scoring goals is strong, and I am happy and satisfied with the way he plays every day."
